Attentiveness

Jesus is in a living, breathing Jewish body at the right hand of His Father.

The physical form of Jesus is just as real and active now as His Spirit is.

He’ll walk into middle eastern bedrooms and introduce Himself. He’ll walk into rooms anywhere. One of the most alluring, hope-filling realities about the Holy One of Israel is that He is actively present.

People feel His arms when they’re crying, and laughing with Him will bring light back to your eyes like nothing else will. His voice is gentle in a still small whisper and His voice is powerful, stripping forests and breaking cedar. He’s coming back as a Lion roaring to rectify all things. That’ll be the most romantic, long awaited return for the lovers who’ve waited for Him, and the greatest day of terror to those who spent their lives rejecting Him.

“Choose Me. In all things choose Me. Choose to love Me back.” He’s shown me the lifeline of that offer. And how could we refuse?

“Son of David, have mercy,” we cry. “Holy One, hold me.”

He wrapped Himself in human skin, He came to where we’d fallen. He gave us the promise of His Father, His Holy Spirit, the Comforter. He keeps coming everyday.

You can make your bed in the depths and find Him there. When you awake you’ll still be with Him. He is wholly attentive. He heals you even in how He looks at you.

“You have set me before Your face forever,” says King David. Jesus doesn’t only see you, He wants to look at you. He sets you before His face.

How wild is that? The Holy One is holding you steady in His gaze and so the attentiveness of Jesus becomes our resting place. There is a new lifestyle here, born out of belief in the words: "I love you. I will never leave you."

To experience this and to be attentive to Him in return is our daily rescue.

“If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in

the depths, you are there…

when I awake, I am still with you”

Psalm 139:8 & 18

“And as for me, you uphold me in my integrity,

and set me before Your face forever.”

Psalm 41:12

Other verses referenced: 1 Kings 19:12, Psalm 29, Luke 24:49
